Painting for me has always been about combining the images that I see in my minds eye and the physical process of actually painting. The paintings on this website represent some very different directions and mediums, and in all of them I am continually exploring the medium, the surface and the concept that I want to create. In the past few years I have been working with a more structured and classical approach to landscape painting and have found this new territory a complex and exciting area to work in. Visualizing, planning, and executing my intentions in this way has increased my understanding of what I want to achieve as an artist. I am interested in how our landscapes were created geologically and in the way they continue to be shaped and changed by the varying forces of nature, climate, man and machine. I am an Irish artist living and working in Seattle. I have attended the National School of Art and Design in Dublin, the Cooper Union in New York, the University of Washington and the Gage Academy in Seattle.
